Although the transparency is
very hard to read, the Japanese consists of a mix of kanji, hiragana,
and katakana characters. Katakana is the symbol set that is used to represent
foreign words phonetically by breaking them down into syllables; it contains
about 50 characters (see chart below).
The only katakana is found in the fourth
row, which is mostly katakana. It reads:
